Chickies

With everything that's been happening in the world recently my family has been very seriously trying to become more self-sufficient. We have been contemplating more and more all the ways God has set-up for us to help provide for ourselves instead of depending so much on stores and such.
One of the ways I have decided to help out in this self-sufficiency endeavor is in raising chicks!! It has been loads of fun and yes it was slightly nerve-wracking at first, trying to keep them warm, keeping them clean, ect. However, I soon realized it is not as hard as it may seem. In fact its a fairly easy and rewarding project to take on. I've been wanting to blog about the chicks for several weeks now and just hadn't got around to it, so I'm extremely excited to share these squawky, fluffballs with y'all finally😀. I started out with 12 chicks, (all pullets) two each of six kinds. I had so much fun picking out the breeds and figuring out which ones would give me a lovely assortment of eggs! They are now about three weeks old. Exactly a week after I bought the first batch I  picked up two more chicks to add to our flock. I heard this variety (Americaunas, pictured above) lays blue or green eggs and I just had to have some!!! The Americaunas are about a week behind the other chicks but are catching up in size fast. Just in the last few weeks the chickies have been spending their days outside in the little pen Dad made for them and they are LOVING it. They hate having to come in in the evening. I'm sooo excited to keep sharing with you my journey of chick raising. We have yet to finish the coop so you'll see pictures of that product at a later date :)
